DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

Motto English is not an obsession, it is a door to better opportunities.

The department of English was established in the year 1998 and is headed by Mrs. B. Lavanya Kumari having an experience of 25 years.  Ever since the department has been catering to the needs of the students. The department is convinced in empowering the students with a fair knowledge of communication skills and also to develop fluency in the language.

The department of English is always zestful in helping the students to become fluent in speaking the   language. It always takes a stand to provide enriched platform for the students to express their innate talents and creativity.

The pride of the department is its 100% result every year, and this is attributed to the healthy and harmonious relationship between the teacher and the students. The department encourages the students to exhibit their novel ideas and there by contribute their mite in the holistic development of their personal and professional endeavors.

OBJECTIVES

• To develop communication skills, confidence and competency in written expressions.
• To develop their intellectual, personal and professional abilities.
• To acquire the linguistic competence necessarily required in various life situations.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

The department of commerce came into existence in the year 1998 primarily to cater to the needs of commerce students. Ever since, the department has grown significantly with its sincere efforts to develop and impart applications of Accounting and Computer skills and also to gain knowledge in the areas of Accountancy, Statistics, Insurance and various Computer languages.

The department conducts teacher and students centric activities, faculty development programmes, seminars, guests lectures, extension lectures and other Commerce oriented activities. The students  are  taken to Industrial visits and regular awareness sessions are conducted by professional institutes like Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI), Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

The department takes pride to mention that many of our students secured 100% marks in the papers pertaining to their course.

DEPARTMENT OFCOMPUTER SCIENCE

Computer science was started both for the B.Com & B.Sc. streams in the year 1998.The Department aims to train the students in various computer languages and in its applications.  In this course they learn the basics of Computer languages, Web designing, Cyber security etc.

Objectives and Out Comes

The department of Computer Science aims to prepare students to design and create complex software and develop new and effective algorithms to solve computing problems, design and devise new ways to use computers.

• The college has excellent lab facilities with printers, LAN and Internet facility

DEPARTMENT OF DATA SCIENCE

Data Science department has come into existence in the year 2020 with the aim of helping the students with better job opportunities as Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Data Scientist etc.

The department of Data Science is to educate the next generation of computer professionals and academics who will practice Data Science and understand the fundamental principles of data science and continue to develop their technical competence and to pursue advanced education, research and development and other creative efforts in science and technology.

 

DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

Microbiology is the scientific study of unicellular microorganisms. Microbiology encompasses numerous sub disciplines including virology, bacteriology, parasitological, mycology and immunology. Microbiologists traditionally rely on culture, staining and microscopy for the isolation and identification of microorganisms. Microbiologists currently rely on molecular biology tools such as DNA sequence based identification.

Objectives and Out Comes

• To provide the student with basic knowledge of microorganisms in general.
• To study the aseptic technique.
• To provide an understanding of anti-microbial agents.

 

DEPARTMENT OF BIO-TECHNOLOGY

The department of Bio-Technology was established in the 2006 as one of the optional papers.

Objectives and Out Comes

• To learn techniques related to production of biologically active molecules, products like insulin, enzymes, vaccines.
• To learn genetically related diseases, metabolic pathways that occur in living organisms for yielding energy, production of transgenic plants & animals.

DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED NUTRITION & PUBLIC HEALTH

The department was established in the year 2020.

The main objectives of the department are

• To prepare students and construct a strong basic foundation in the concepts of nutrition and diet plan.
• To develop skillful nutritional experts for addressing health challenges.
• To provide in depth knowledge of the healthy lifestyle.
• To promote protective food and to ensure its consumption by various age groups.

At the end of the course students will be able

• To understand the principles of diet therapy modification.
• To become a perfect dietician.
• To comprehend the functions and sources of nutrients and their role in the maintenance of good health.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

The department of Chemistry was established in 2006 as one of the optional papers for the M.Bt.C. and Applied Nutrition courses in 2020.The main aim of the department is to provide thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles of Chemistry and its contemporary practices. It enables the students to investigate, explain, and predict new features of the subject and adopt its practical application.

Objectives and Out Comes

In 3 years of course students will learn 5 disciplines of chemistry that include Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic chemistry, Bio-chemistry
They will have exposure towards modern Analytical instrumentation such as UV spectrometer, chromatography techniques.
Students will learn about mechanism of enzyme catalyzed reactions, metabolism, compounds containing carbon like drugs, plastics, 3D structure of organic molecules and so on.
Learn techniques like protein purification, salt analysis and handling of instruments.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

The department of Mathematics was established in the year 1998 with the objective of encouraging the richness of the subject among the students. It also helps to strengthen the basic concept of mathematics and to enhance their arithmetic ability.

DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS

The department of Statistics was established in the year 1998 with an objective to help the students understand the basic theoretical and applied principles of statistics needed to enter the job force.

At the end of the course students will be able
To communicate key statistical concepts to non-statisticians.
To help students gain proficiency in using statistical software for data analysis.
